This past Friday- I braved the weather and the awful feeling of wanting to vomit (from fear) and went to the local Crossfit Box here in town. I have always wanted to do it but never had one near us in Germany. So- when I found out there was one right here in town- I figured- why not. I went in Thursday to tour it.
Ok- truthfully- I sent Lee in to tour it. He has no intention of going but I wasn't brave enough. Well- they were closed and wouldn't be open for two hours. So- we went back 2 hours later and he went in. I sat in the car for a few minutes and then figured- might as well go in. They were super nice. They answered all my questions and encouraged me to give it a try. I said I would the next day.
Cue Friday. I was nauseous and nervous. Knowing I would be the most out of shape and overweight person there- in a place where they flip tires and stuff for workouts... intimidating! The workout for the day was 150 wall balls, 90 double unders and 15 muscle ups.
Wall balls... for girls... Using a 14 lb medicine ball- throw the ball above a 9 ft mark on the ceiling... while squatting between each rep.
Double Unders...Jumping rope- but doing 2 passes of the rope under your feet per jump!
Muscle ups... using rings hanging from the ceiling... rock your body back and forth til you have enough momentum and strength to pull yourself above the rings...
Yeah. A. Little. Intimidating.
I was smoked during warmups. I could not even complete them.
I continued though. After looking at the quality of my squats... they decided to skip the workout for me. They wanted me to just do as many squats as possible in the timeframe of the workout (12 minutes)... They put the 14lb medicine ball under me to get me to squat low enough. I was able to squat that low for 60 reps. Then I moved onto the tire... it was a big rig tire. They laid it down and I squatted to that. I knocked out another 60... so 120 squats in 12 minutes.
Awesome! I was smoked! It was awesome to watch the other people do their workouts and see how they did. Definitely inspiring.
I know I would be sore. No doubt. But I was not at all prepared. The day after- I was dying. It wasn't much better Sunday either. I could not stand without help (either hubby or something like a table to push off of). I could almost cry going up and down stairs. I had to lean ALL my weight on the railing and put one leg out to the side... to use a different muscle to push up.
Today is a little better. I still have a lot of pain getting up and down from the couch. I walk funny and my thighs lock up on me. Not a lot of fun when you have a 2 yr old "needing" something every two minutes.
That is what I want. I will not be the star person for awhile. Maybe not ever. But I will keep showing up. I will keep working. I planned on going tonight but I do not see it happening. Looking at todays workout and knowing some of the workouts- I cannot really do anything without hurting myself further. I am hoping to rest today and then hit it again tomorrow.
I loved it!!

Hey - you went! That's a big win in my book. I love that they were able to tailor the work out to your needs. You'll be rocking the whole group workout before you know it!
